inground pools frequently asked questions

Can I use sand and cement material for my pool bottom vs. vermiculite?
Yes, you can. Many times it is difficult to find vermiculite so builders use sand and cement. Vermiculite will cost 3 to 4 times more than a sand and cement material.

Can anyone install this pool?
Most people who understand basic construction practices can install this product.
Key items of concern:
  • » Establishing grade, elevation, etc.
  • » Excavate within tolerance.
  • » Installing pool level, plum, etc.
  • » Review installation manual, video, etc., to assess the project.

Can I add a heater after the fact?
Yes, a heater is installed on the return side of the filter and can be added at anytime. Make sure you leave enough area on the equipment pad for a heater option.

Can I buy plumbing material at the hardware store?
Yes, the plumbing supplies are Schedule40 PVC pressure fittings (1½" and 2").

Is water chemistry difficult and complicated?
No, understanding what specific chemicals do will make your job easier. Maintaining your chemicals weekly will allow you the freedom to swim and not struggle with water problems.

Is a polystyrene panel strong enough to be buried?
Yes, our panels are designed to bury - the longer the better. Polymer panels are totally non-corrosive and will last for many, many years.

Are there specific requirements in building a diving pool?
Yes, very, very exact dimensions must be used in the design of a diving pool. Contact us for more information.

Can I backfill around the pool area with dirt?
No - We recommend a material that will give you an adequate compaction such as sand, crush run, fine gravel, etc.

Can I custom design my pool?
Yes, we encourage you to explore the many options that we offer in the designs of our pool kits. Whether you choose one that is a standard design, enjoyed by many hundreds or thousands of people already, a custom design that has been specifically built for just a few people, or custom design your own pool kit, your options at diy pools are nearly endless.

Can I call and talk with someone during the construction process?
Yes, we have qualified people to answer your questions during the hours of 8:00am to 5:00pm EST.

What are the most popular styles of pools?
We see our business from different perspectives. Some regions still build a lot of diving rectangle, grecian, and oval designs. Other trade areas build smaller pools, due to lot size, subdivisions, etc.

Can a safety cover be added at a later date?
Yes, many people elect to buy their covers at a later date.

Do Aqua Genies actually clean the floor area of a swimming pool?
Yes. The Aqua Genie will save you time and labor as it automatically cleans your pool while you swim.

Can our shallow area of the pool be deeper than the 40" standard depth?
Yes, with a cove offset, the shallow end measurement can be increased to the desired depth.

Do we want a white or blue wall vinyl liner pattern?
We recommend a blue wall design if you have trees around the pool. A leaf may stain a white wall pattern if they lay on the surface of the vinyl for a long period of time. A white wall pattern doesn't pull the UV's as much as a darker or blue pattern. It is your choice however.

Can we totally automate our swimming pool?
Yes, all functions can be controlled automatically. Time Clocks, for example, will control filteration, chlorination, cleaner and light functions automatically.
